More and more public services in Poland are moving online, and sooner or later you’ll be asked to have a so-called “trusted profile” (profil zaufany) on the ePUAP platform. Here’s what it is and how to get one in 2026.

What is ePUAP and profil zaufany

ePUAP (Elektroniczna Platforma Usług Administracji Publicznej) is Poland’s nationwide platform for interacting with public authorities online. Access to it is granted through the profil zaufany (“trusted profile”): a free electronic equivalent of a signature that confirms your identity in the state’s digital services.

Today the official primary term is “profil zaufany” (trusted profile), while ePUAP refers more to the underlying platform itself. In practice, both terms are still used interchangeably.

What you can use it for

With a profil zaufany you can, among other things:

  • register a JDG (sole proprietorship) online via CEIDG;
  • confirm and submit a company’s annual financial statement through the S24 portal;
  • request confirmation from ZUS that your employer has paid contributions;
  • register your address (meldunek) remotely;
  • submit documents through the MOS system for residence legalization;
  • apply for a foreigner’s work permit through the praca.gov.pl portal.

How to get a trusted profile

The main requirement is having a PESEL number. Without it, you cannot register a profile, not even through a bank.

There are two main methods:

1. Through online banking
The fastest method, if your bank supports it. The bank confirms your identity using its own records, and you only need to fill out an application in your mobile or online banking app. The list of banks offering this service is available at pz.gov.pl/dt/registerByXidp. Every login to ePUAP after this type of registration will require SMS code confirmation.

2. Online registration + identity confirmation at a verification point
Fill out the form at pz.gov.pl, then visit the nearest confirmation point within 14 days, bringing your passport, residence card, or dowód osobisty. If you miss the deadline, the application is cancelled and you’ll need to start over.
If you’re registering a business or filing for residence legalization based on JDG/B2B work, keep in mind the PIP 2026 reform. Since 8 July 2026, the labor inspectorate has the right to reclassify a B2B contract without going to court.

The role of the mObywatel app

The mObywatel app and the electronic ID card (e-dowód) are actively developing as additional channels. In practice, they most often function as a way to log in and confirm an already existing trusted profile, rather than as a standalone way to register from scratch. Official materials do not explicitly describe mObywatel as a separate registration path. If you’re unsure whether this option works in your case, check the current information at gov.pl/web/mobywatel.
