Whether you’re relocating to Poland or just scouting the country before a bigger move, you’ll eventually have to pick an airport and figure out how to get to town. Poland’s airports have changed a lot in the past decade: new terminals opened, and some carriers and shuttle services disappeared entirely. Here’s the current picture for 2026.
- Warsaw Chopin Airport
- Warsaw-Modlin Airport
- Kraków Airport
- Katowice Airport
- The new CPK mega-hub
- Airport taxis: avoiding overcharging
Warsaw Chopin Airport
Poland’s main hub is Warsaw Chopin Airport, still often called Okęcie by locals after the district it sits in. It’s inside the city limits, making it one of Europe’s most conveniently located airports.
Getting downtown:
- the SKM city rail (lines S2/S3) or Koleje Mazowieckie trains; the station sits right under the terminal, departures every 15 minutes, about 20 minutes to Warszawa Centralna. A single ZTM ticket costs around 4.40 PLN;
- bus 175, which runs to central streets like Marszałkowska and Aleje Jerozolimskie;
- a taxi or ride-hailing apps like Bolt/Uber (see the safety tip below).
Train schedules occasionally change due to track works. Always check the current timetable at wtp.waw.pl before you travel.

Warsaw-Modlin Airport
The capital’s secondary airport traditionally serves low-cost carriers, and as of 2026, Ryanair remains the dominant airline here. The airport itself sits roughly 35 km from central Warsaw, near Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki.
There’s still no direct rail line into the terminal; Koleje Mazowieckie trains only reach Modlin station, with a shuttle bus covering the last stretch.
Worth knowing: Modlinbus, the private coach that for years ran directly between the Palace of Culture and Science and the airport, has suspended its service. Other private operators and city lines now cover the route. Check the airport’s website for the current operator and timetable before you travel, as this can change again.

Kraków Airport
John Paul II International Airport in Balice is Poland’s second-busiest, serving both legacy carriers (British Airways and others) and low-cost airlines (Ryanair, Wizz Air).
The easiest way downtown is the Koleje Małopolskie train (line SKA1) to Kraków Główny station, about 17-20 minutes, with a 2026 ticket price of roughly 20 PLN. The same line continues to the Wieliczka salt mine.

Katowice Airport
Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice is one of Poland’s main low-cost hubs, especially popular with Ukrainians thanks to direct Wizz Air flights from Zhuliany. There is still no rail connection to the airport; options are the Lotnisko Airport Bus, city bus lines, or a taxi.
A taxi to Katowice city centre typically costs around 140-180 PLN; confirm the price with the dispatcher or in the app before you get in, to avoid overpaying.

The new CPK mega-hub
One project worth watching is the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), a planned major transport hub between Warsaw and Łódź combining air, rail, and road links. As of 2026, the project is at the preparatory construction stage, and the official target for opening the main airport has slipped to around 2032; the timeline has already been revised several times, so treat any date as provisional.
Airport taxis: avoiding overcharging
Despite ongoing efforts by airport staff and police, some drivers still try to overcharge unsuspecting travelers for unofficial rides.
– use the official taxi rank at the terminal, or book Bolt/Uber in advance with a fixed price shown upfront;
– avoid unmarked cars or ones labeled “przewóz osób”;
– when in doubt, ask airport staff for help.
Hopefully this overview helps you plan your trip with confidence, and without overpaying along the way.
